Ngutuni Lodge is a luxury safari lodge located in the heart of a 10,000 acre private game sanctuary, surrounded on three sides by Tsavo East National Park. The lodge overlooks a water hole and is set against the spectacular backdrop of the Sagala Hills, only 2.5 hours drive from Mombasa and its international airport. Once home to the infamous 'man eating lions of Tsavo' who preyed on men constructing the railway line between Mombasa and Kampala in the nineteenth century, the sanctuary and surrounding national park are best known today for their fantastic variety of wildlife including lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo as well as a huge variety of plains game and bird life. Spectacularly constructed from large timber poles, with plunging thatched roofs and waxed timber decking, the lodge skillfully blends traditional African design with the modern comforts of a luxury lodge. From the moment you step into reception and gaze through the open plan restaurant to the savannah beyond you begin to realise why this is such a special lodge. Life at Ngutuni follows a delightful routine, early mornings and late afternoons are spent game viewing as this is the best time to observe animals foraging for food in the surrounding savannah. Evenings are spent relaxing with safari companions; time to enjoy a sundowner overlooking the softly illuminated waterhole before a sumptuous dinner. Finally enjoy a few quiet moments under star lit skies as you savour the lights and sounds of the African bush.

Nestled in 190 acres of wooded Masai land, the Lodge sits on the foothills of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Mature wooded gardens with a variety of trees and plants thrive in these surroundings. Different species of birds, monkeys and squirrels dart through the gardens. There are 83 rooms in total, some with interconnecting doors – ideal for families – and 24 rooms can be turned into triples on request. Two rooms are suitable for the physically challenged, and one room is a honeymoon suite. The rooms are constructed as individual huts, and they are all spacious, with en-suite bathrooms and verandahs. Local materials and colours are used for furnishings, maintaining the African theme. The totally private and spacious honeymoon suite has an ornamental fireplace and kitchenette. A spacious verandah surrounds the suite, ideal for viewing the mountain in its glory.

It is told that both Queen Elizabeth and President Jomo Kenyatta visited Castle Forest Lodge when they were students. In 2000, Castle Forest Lodge was renovated to accommodate slightly over forty guests. When looking for a weekend break, Castle Forest Lodge is ideally located at a just 3-hour drive from Nairobi off the Kutus-Kianyaga road. Castle Forest Lodge as an eco-tourism facility recognizes its responsibility towards maintaining the fragile ecological balance of its unique natural environment by actively seeking new opportunities to reduce consumption of energy, water and other natural resources. Whilst the entire power consumed at the lodge is generated by solar- and micro-hydro systems, we also make great effort to reuse or recycle materials and responsibly dispose of non-recyclable items where possible.
