Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
From the Shira Plateau, you continue east into a semi desert and rocky landscape and again head South East towards the Lava Tower. Day 6: Barafu Camp to summit Uhuru Peak to Mweka camp
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am) after some tea and biscuits, you continue your way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, heading in northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim, the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. You will stop for a short rest at Stella Point, where you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From here, you may encounter snow all the way on your ascent to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895 m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Weather conditions on the summit will determine how long you will be able to spend, taking photographs. From the summit, you now make your descent straight down to the Mweka Camp (3100 m), situated in the upper forest, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You arrive late in the afternoon for dinner and overnight ā 13 to 15 hrs.
