At 5896m the snowcapped Mt Kilimanjaro is no doubt the highest peak in Africa and one of the continents magnificent sights. For most people who visit Kilimanjaro their aim and dream is to reach the Uhuru peak . There many routes for trekking in Mt Kilimanjaro . The Marangu route is an attractive route beginning at 1980m ascending through beautiful section of the forest Day 1
The day starts with an early drive to Marangu gate. After registering at the park gates begin trekking through the rain forest, for 3-4 hours to Mandara hut 2750m. Day 2
After, leave the confines of the forest, and continue trekking past the Maudi crater into open rolling moorlands where you will get your first clear view of towering Kilimanjaro in the distance. A 5-6 hours trek brings you to Horombo hut 3807m. Dinner and overnight. Day 3
After a good night’s rest trek past the water point to reach Kibo saddle, a broad desert zone between the two peaks of Kibo and Mawezi. This stunning trek takes 5-6 hours reaching Kibo hut 4725m. Dinner and overnight. Day 4
Start for the summit is made just after midnight. The steepest hut takes you to Gillman’s point (5700m) 5-6 hours on the rim of Kilimanjaros crater. After 90 minutes of trekking across glaciers will bring you to Uhuru Peak 5895m (the highest peak in Africa). The decent takes approximately 5-6 hours down to Horombo hut where you will have an overnight. Day 5
Spend the day descending to Marangu gate where you will be presented with your certificate of accomplishment before transferring to Arusha. |
