Mombasa
Mombasa is a multinational
capital reflecting the influence of Africans,
Persians, Arabs, Turks, Indians, Portuguese and
the British. The Old Town is a grid of narrow
winding streets lined with houses built to
coastal Swahili and Indian styles. Some of the
houses have intricately carved doors similar to
what you find in Zanzibar and Lamu.

Lamu
This is truly an
island of sweet memories. With only one car and
not a single traffic light. With roaming
donkeys. With an overabundance of clear, clean
spring water that is drawn up from deep within
the earth. And unforgettable sunsets, and
rainbows that appear out of nowhere. But the
enchanting scents of the island will be your
most vivid connection to your time spent here.
The aromas of fresh baked raisin bread and
sizzling barbeque. |

Takaungu Creek
Takaungu is a
small coastal village about 50 kilometres north
of Mombasa and 10 kilomteres south of Malindi.
The quaint village is situated above Takaungu
Creek, a relatively small, yet stunning creek
which reaches inland into a dense mangrove
forest.
It is situated on a low coral cliff, at the
confluence of Takaungu creek and the Indian
ocean. Low tide reveals acres of sand, studded
with tide pools - each an aquarium in miniature.
As the tide turns, the creek is transformed into
turquoise shallows, on which fishing dhows sail
home. |
